Practical Self-Protection
When violence comes to visit you be prepared to accept it rationally and responsibly.
Violence can be frightening -- if we do not understand it.
The difference between self-defense and self-protection is one of mindset. Self-defense is about avoiding injury when violence threatens. Self-protection is this and more -- it is the next level. The protection specialist is pro-active against violence and will strive to avoid it, but there are times when the only response to incoming violence is to meet it with violence in response. This is the moment of truth. Can you put yourself not only into surviving the moment but into that place where you are absolutely okay with it? This is what is meant by accepting violence rationally and responsibly.
The protection specialist embraces violence. By embracing it and desensitizing it, much of its negative impact is neutralized. You, too, can become a protection specialist. You can learn this mindset.
With the proper tools and education you can be prepared to deal with that violent moment. You do not need to learn how to fight. You do not need to be in great shape. You do not need to spend years training specific physical skills. What you do need is to connect to a belief system that you can put into action.
Knowledge can make fear go away. Yes, you may well be frightened but with the necessary mindset you can learn to take control of that frightening moment and not to become a victim of it.
